About Artist: Cynthia (Cindy) LeRouge, has worked with some aspects of fiber, needle arts, or design since the age of seven when she began hand embroidery and sewing. Early in her life she created a small line of quilted bags, suede purses, wraps, and capes. Most of her design activities over the last two decades have related to software design to solve problems in engaging and aesthetic ways particularly as a health informatics university professor and researcher.
Cynthia trained in fiber arts and design at the Gail Harker Center for Creative Arts and the International Academy of Design and Technology. Her appreciation of the healing power of art prompted her to pursue and complete an associate art therapist certification program to work with youth and elders.
Cindy grew up immersed in sensory-rich New Orleans and the rich Cajun culture of her grandparents. This gave her an early appreciation for the possibilities with texture, color, and diverse assemblages that has endured. Her work is full of multi-textural connections among multiple media and juxtaposes natural and synthetic materials. It is a blending of components, much like gumbo, often with a little spice thrown in.
Mixed Media Techniques: Fiber sculpting, hand dying, collage, encaustic printing, cyanotype, hand and machine stitching, silk painting and quilting
